When I try to connect to www.indiana.edu or www.iupui.edu, why do I always get a "login incorrect" error?
When you use SSH or SFTP to connect to
www.indiana.edu or www.iupui.edu at Indiana
University, you are actually connecting to Webserve, the
central university web server. This computer is used for departmental
and organizational web pages. This is not the web,
but rather the computer where some official IU web pages are
stored. You probably don't have access to this computer, so your
attempts to log in will be refused.
If you do have a Webserve account, you should use SSH or SFTP to
connect directly to webserve.iu.edu (rather than
www.indiana.edu) to access your account.
To access the web, you can use a graphical browser like Firefox or Internet Explorer, or log into your Quarry account and use Lynx, a non-graphical browser.
