ARCHIVED: What data transfer methods are supported on XSEDE, and where can I find more information about data transfers?
Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE) digital services support a variety of methods for transferring data:
- Globus Online: Globus Online provides a simple web
interface for fast, high-performance data transfers between XSEDE
digital services. To transfer files between you personal computer and
XSEDE digital services, download and install Globus Connect
Personal. To move data between XSEDE digital services and another
multi-user high-performance system (e.g., a lab cluster or campus
research supercomputer), system administrators can install Globus
Connect Server. Globus also provides a command-line interface,
accessible from any standard SSH terminal client.
Note: To use Globus file transfer and sharing services, you must have a Globus account. To create an account, fill out and submit the Sign Up form. After creating your Globus account, you can link it your XSEDE User Portal account, allowing you to sign into Globus services using your XSEDE-wide login.
For more, see the Globus File Transfer User Guide in the XSEDE User Portal.
- GridFTP: For the transfer of large files, XSEDE
digital services support
globus-url-copy
anduberftp
, two command-line implementations of the GridFTP protocol. To useglobus-url-copy
oruberftp
, you'll need to know the appropriate GridFTP endpoints for each system; see ARCHIVED: Find a list of XSEDE GridFTP endpoints - SCP and SFTP: For the transfer of small files, XSEDE digital services support the SCP and SFTP command-line tools. These tools are easy to use and secure, but provide poor performance when moving large files. For more, see:
For more about the various methods available for transferring data between XSEDE digital services, see Data Transfers & Management in the XSEDE User Portal.
