Install software in home directories

Carbonate users are free to install software in their home directories. This method allows users full control over which version of the software is installed and how it is installed. Users can also update their software packages. In this scenario, only the user who installed the software package can use it; if you install software using a group account, everyone in the group can share the software.

Staff from the National Center for Genome Analysis (NCGAS), part of Research Technologies, can help you install software packages in your home directory on Carbonate. To request help, contact NCGAS.

Install software in public locations

NCGAS staff can install software in a public location and make it available to all Carbonate users via the Modules framework.

To have software installed in a public location, submit a request via the NCGAS Carbonate Cluster Software Request form that includes a justification for making the package available to everyone on the system. NCGAS staff will decide how to install, maintain, and update the software. In general, no more than two versions of the same application will be made available on Carbonate.

Request software

Only faculty or staff can request software. If students require software packages on Carbonate, their advisors must request them using the online form. The initial request must come from a faculty member, but a student can be appointed for further contact.

Note:
For a list of life sciences applications currently supported on Carbonate, see Software supported by NCGAS.
