In Windows, what should I do about error messages during removal and installation of Adobe software?
In Windows, if you uninstall an Adobe program in order to install a newer version of the program, you may receive one of the following error messages:
"The installation source for this product is not available..."
"Error 1612 Missing source media."
"Error 1714: Cannot remove older version..."
"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'Adobe [product] .msi' in the box below."
"Error 1714 The older version of Adobe [product] cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group."
To prevent these error messages, try the following steps:
- Make sure the Adobe product you are attempting to upgrade is not
listed within the
Add/Remove Programscontrol panel; see In Windows, how do I uninstall programs?
- Restart your computer if any programs were uninstalled.
- Download and install the Windows Installer
CleanUp Utility (this utility works for both 32-bit and 64-bit
versions of Windows).
If you are using Windows Vista, right-click
msicuu2.exe(the executable file for the cleanup utility) and chooseRun as administrator. - Download a cleanup script from Adobe (for problems installing and
uninstalling Adobe Creative Suite software):
- Adobe CS3Clean Script (see Adobe's Using the new CS3Clean Script)
- Adobe CS4Clean Script (see Adobe's Using the Adobe Creative Suite 4 Clean Script)
If you still receive an error message after following these steps, contact your Support Center.
