Using Oncourse Modules, how do I import or export a module?

You can export modules you have created in either IMS content packaging format or SCORM 2004 format. You can import modules in IMS content packaging format. Many textbook and e-learning publishers produce content in one of these two formats.

If you need to import modules from another site that you own, you can use the Site Setup tool; see Importing material or participants from another site you own.

Importing an IMS content package into Modules

  1. In the Modules tool, click Manage at the top of the page to enter the Manage view.

  2. Click Import/Export.

  3. Type the path and filename of your IMS content package, or click Browse to browse to it. The file you import should be a .zip file, as described below in the section on exporting modules.

  4. Click Import to import the content package or Cancel to cancel the action.

  5. The import process adds all of the modules in the content package to the end of the module list. To delete modules you don't need, see Adding, editing, or deleting a module using the Modules tool. To sort them, see Sorting and nesting modules and content sections in the Modules tool.

Exporting modules

You can choose to export modules in either IMS content package format or SCORM 2004 format.

  1. In the Modules tool, click Manage at the top of the page to enter the Manage view.

  2. Click Import/Export.

  3. Click the radio button next to IMS Content Package format or SCORM 2004 format.

  4. Select the modules that you wish to export from the "What to export" box.

Note: Hold down the Ctrl key (or Apple key on the Mac) to select more than one module.

  5. Click Export to produce a .zip file containing the content in the form you have chosen. An IMS file can be imported into the Modules tool of another course site or into any IMS-compliant site. A SCORM 2004 file can be imported into any SCORM 2004-compliant site.

Note: Oncourse does not support the SCORM 2004 format, so you cannot import modules exported using this format.
