After upgrading to Windows 7 or Vista, why has my antivirus client stopped working?
If you upgrade to Windows 7 or Vista from a previous version of Windows without first removing your antivirus software, you will likely run into problems.
This is especially true when upgrading with Symantec AntiVirus CE 10.1.5.5000 or earlier installed. This will cause the antivirus client to stop functioning, and you'll be unable to reinstall it or another client. At this time, the only solution to this problem is a clean reinstall of Windows.
