UMS voice mail quick-reference guide

Following is a quick-reference guide to Unified Messaging Service (UMS) voice mail.

On this page:


Accessing the system

To access the system, dial your UMS system number:

  • IUB: 812-856-9800
  • IUPUI: 317-278-4288

Your mailbox number is your 10-digit campus telephone number (e.g., 812-855-4848).

Message storage

  • New unread messages are kept 30 days.
  • Deleted messages are kept 5 days.
  • Saved messages are kept 30 days.

Menu options

The system will prompt you with selections for all input, though you do not have to wait for prompts to enter commands.

To return to the previous menu at any time, press  * .

Note: Many of the following options have additional selections that are not listed. Depending on the option you choose, the system will present you with a list of additional choices if they are available.

Listen to new voice mail 1 + 1
Listen to saved voice mail 1 + 2
Set status to "Out of Office" 5 + 1 + 7
Record a greeting 5 + 4 + 1
Record your name 5 + 4 + 5
Change your passcode 5 + 5 + 3
Restore deleted messages 5 + 7 + 4
When placing a call, bypass the user greeting and leave a message 1 + 1

While listening to a message

While listening to a message, you can:

Save the current message 1
Forward the message to another mailbox 2
Skip to the next message 3
Replay the current message 4
Rewind six seconds 5
Fast-forward six seconds 6
Delete this message and play the next 7
Decrease volume 8
Increase volume 9

After listening to a message

After listening, you can save, forward, skip, replay, or delete as listed above, or you can:

Reply to a caller 5
Play the text of the message
(i.e., the email notification; does not include the content of a voice message)
