Can I use Symantec AntiVirus or Ghost with Windows Vista?

Symantec AntiVirus

Symantec AntiVirus CE 10.1.5 does not work with Windows Vista Enterprise. However, the latest versions are compatible with Windows Vista, and are available to Indiana University students, faculty, and staff via IUware.

Symantec AntiVirus CE 10.2.298 for 64-bit Windows Vista is available at:

Symantec Ghost

Note: The following information is intended for registered local support providers (LSPs) at Indiana University. If you are an LSP and have questions regarding the information in this document, contact LSP Services at  lsps@iu.edu ; otherwise, contact your campus Support Center.

If you use sysprep on your images, you can use Symantec Ghost Solution Suite version 1.1 to ghost your images in Windows Vista as you would in Windows XP.

If you don't use sysprep, you will need to run these three commands before ghosting to modify the boot image:

C:\Windows\System32\BCDEDIT /set {bootmgr} device boot C:\Windows\System32\BCDEDIT /set {default} device boot C:\Windows\System32\BCDEDIT /set {default} osdevice boot

When the image is deployed, the system should boot correctly. If you fail to do this beforehand, you can boot from a Windows PE CD, go to the Vista windows\system32 directory, and run the commands from there.

The Ghost 1.1 client does not function on Vista. However, Ghost Solution Suite 2.0 supports Vista, and is available to LSPs at:
