ARCHIVED: What is Oncourse?

This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.

Oncourse, IU's legacy online collaboration and learning environment, powered by the Sakai community, has been supporting teaching and learning, committees, projects, research, and portfolios for Indiana University's community of students, faculty, and staff since 2005. With the upcoming retirement of Oncourse, all instructors are encouraged to migrate their course content to Canvas and start using Canvas for teaching and learning-related activities. Project site owners are encouraged to migrate all activities to other appropriate platforms; see ARCHIVED: Alternatives to Oncourse project sites.

Important:
Oncourse is retired. For details, see ARCHIVED: About the Oncourse retirement.

Oncourse offers a straightforward way to create a website for every course offered at the university. Using Oncourse, students and faculty can access course syllabi and grades; communicate via course mail, chat rooms, and discussion forums; and access online quizzes and surveys. Oncourse also provides individuals 1 GB of file storage space.

Access Oncourse at:

  https://oncourse.iu.edu/

Faculty and staff can familiarize themselves with the application by requesting a practice course site, which contains the same tools as an official course site. Students, faculty, and staff can use the tools available in Oncourse by requesting a project site. See ARCHIVED: Requesting a site.

You can also learn about Oncourse from Knowledge Base documents (see ARCHIVED: the Oncourse menu), by clicking Help within Oncourse, and from other ARCHIVED: training and support resources.
