What is Python?
Python is a freeware interpreted programming language available for most operating systems. Guido van Rossum created Python at the Dutch National Research Institute for Mathematics and Computer Science (CWI). It is object-oriented, interactive, easily extensible, and portable. Python is suitable as a scripting language for applications, and software developers have incorporated it into many products. It is also popular as a CGI scripting language, as its capabilities compare favorably with those of Perl. At Indiana University, Python is available on Big Red.
