What is the standard phonetic alphabet?
The standard phonetic alphabet used in aviation and by some militaries (mostly those in English-speaking countries) is listed below: alfa bravo charlie delta echo foxtrot golf hotel india juliet kilo lima mike november oscar papa quebec romeo sierra tango uniform victor whiskey x-ray yankee zulu
The numbers are spelled differently to suggest a particular pronunciation. Also, nine was changed to "niner" to avoid confusion with the German word "nein" for "no".
