In Windows, how do I create PostScript files?
To create PostScript files in Windows, follow the steps below:
Note: You can use this procedure with most programs in Windows 95, 98, Me, NT, 2000, and XP (the notable exceptions being Notepad and Corel/WordPerfect products). You must have a PostScript printer driver installed on your computer.
- From the
Filemenu, selectPrint.
- If necessary, change the printer driver to a PostScript printer
driver.
- Check the box labeled
Print to Fileand clickOK.
- A dialog box will open, allowing you to choose the folder in which
you wish to create the PostScript file. Choose a name for the file (a
.prnextension will be appended to the filename). When you selectSave, a PostScript file will be created.
If you are using WordPerfect 8 for Windows, you must follow a slightly different procedure:
- From the
Filemenu, selectPrint.
- If necessary, change the printer driver to a PostScript printer
driver.
- Select the
Detailstab.
- Click
Print to File.
- Under "Print to File", enter the path and filename desired, for example: c:\myfiles\mypsfile.prn
- Select
Print. The file will be created.
If you use an application that does not give you a Print to
File box in the Print dialog box, or does not give
you a Print dialog box (e.g., Notepad) you must install a
PostScript driver specially for the purpose of printing PostScript
files. The printer port should be set to File.
Note: If you are exchanging PostScript files with
publishers, service agencies, or other users, the commonly accepted
filename extension for a PostScript file is .ps. You
might consider renaming your PostScript files, replacing the default
.prn extension with a .ps extension. This
will also help if you have a PostScript viewer installed (by default,
they recognize .ps files).
