In Microsoft Word, how do I change the amount of line space between paragraphs?

To adjust the spacing between paragraphs in Microsoft Word:

Word 2007

  1. Select the text in the document for which you want to change the line spacing.

  2. Select the Page Layout tab.

  3. From the Paragraph gallery, you can set the "Before" and "After" spacing.

Note: In Word 2007, the "After" spacing is set to 10 pt by default. To make the spacing similar to previous versions of Word, set both the "Before" and "After" spacing to 0 pt .

Other versions of Word

  1. Select the text in the document for which you want to change the line spacing.

  2. From the Format menu, select Paragraph... . The Paragraph dialog box will open.

  3. Select the Indents and Spacing tab. Adjust the "Before:" and "After:" boxes to set how much line space Word will insert before and after a paragraph. To prevent any line spaces between paragraphs, set the spacing to 0 pt .
  4. Click OK to apply the changes.
