With Elm, how do I create a mail distribution list?

Note: Elm is not available on any UITS systems.

To create a mail distribution list in Elm, follow these steps:

  1. From the main Elm window, press  a  to get to the aliases utility.

  2. Press  n  to create a new alias, i.e., distribution list, then enter the name of the alias you want to make.

  3. To leave the following fields blank, press Enter: First name Last name Optional comment
  4. The next (and last) field consists of the addresses that will be the contents of the distribution list. Type the full addresses separated by commas with no spaces, like this: johndoe@indiana.edu,janewyatt@indiana.edu,angel@heaven.com
    • This field may consist of other Elm aliases that have been previously defined, for example: jack, betty, fernando,ed,pookie
    • When typing your list of aliases, do not press Enter; continue to type the names and allow them to wrap around to the next line. The length limit for Elm distribution lists is 250 characters.
    • Enter each address separated with commas, and no spaces. Press Enter after the last address.

  5. To confirm that this is an alias you definitely want to create, press  y , then  $  (the dollar sign) to update the aliases file and have your new entry recognized.
