How do I transfer files between two computers that don't share any network?
If you need to transfer files between two computers that don't share any network, you can copy the files to a some form of removable media (e.g., a flash drive, CD, or DVD), and transfer them physically.
Another option is to connect each computer to some central network temporarily (e.g., via a cable modem connection to the internet) and transfer files to and from one of Indiana University's central file systems or some other file storage location using SFTP or a web client.
Graduate students, faculty, and staff can use the Slashtmp service to temporarily store and share large files via a web interface.
You can connect Windows computers via several different methods; see Directly connecting computers and sharing files. With a Mac, you may be able to connect your computer to another Mac as an external hard drive; see How do I use my Mac as an external hard disk for another computer?
