Where can I get Emacs for my computer?

The standard GNU Emacs distribution supports most Unix variants, including Mac OS X, and also MS-DOS and Windows. Access it at: http://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/emacs.html In addition, there are many other Emacs implementations and variants. Most, while extensible in ways similar to the original GNU distribution of Emacs, are not based upon Lisp and thus may not be compatible with Emacs-Lisp configuration and extension files. You can find an up-to-date list of current Emacs implementations at: http://www.finseth.com/~fin/emacs.html This list provides information about implementations for Unix, DOS, Windows, Mac OS, VMS, Amiga, Atari, and other operating systems.

For more information about GNU and Emacs, see the GNU Emacs FAQ at: http://www.faqs.org/faqs/GNU-Emacs-FAQ/

At Indiana University, for personal or departmental Linux or Unix systems support, see At IU, how do I get support for Linux or Unix?
