In Microsoft Windows, how do I configure a local printer to convert documents to PostScript format?
In Windows, to configure a local printer to convert documents to PostScript format by default, follow the appropriate instructions below:
Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, and XP
- From the
Startmenu, selectSettings, thenPrintersorPrinters and Faxes.
- Locate the icon for your PostScript printer. You may also install
one at this point if you need to.
- Now you need to set the printer's connection to
FILE:by following these steps:
- In Windows XP and 2000, right-click the PostScript printer's
icon and select
Properties. Select thePortstab, and check the box next toFile: Print to File. In Windows 95, 98, and Me, right-click the PostScript printer's icon and selectProperties. Then select theDetailstab. In the drop-down menu under "Print to the following port", selectFile: (Creates a file on disk). - Click
OK, andOKagain.
- In Windows XP and 2000, right-click the PostScript printer's
icon and select
- Using your application, print the file to the PostScript printer, and enter the name of the PostScript output file.
