In Elm, how do I create mail address aliases?

Note: Elm is not available on any UITS systems.

Note: The software discussed here is no longer in common use at Indiana University, and UITS may no longer be able to verify the document's accuracy. The UITS Support Center may no longer have the manuals and other materials required to support this software adequately.

To create an alias in Elm, follow the steps below:

  1. From the main menu in Elm, press  a  to get to the aliases screen.

  2. Press  n  for new aliases.

  3. You will be prompted for an alias name, last name, first name, comment, and address. For multiple addresses, separate each address by commas, for example: efudd@wabbits.com, bbunny@indiana.edu, dduck@cc.purdue.edu
  4. Press  y  to accept the new alias.

  5. Press  r  to return to the main menu, and your new alias will be created. (Pressing  a  again will re-display the aliases.)

To send mail to an alias list, from Elm's main menu, press  m  and type the alias name. You can also press  a  and move to the alias you want using the arrow keys, and then press  m .

To delete an alias, press  a  to get to the aliases screen. Then move to the alias you wish to delete and press  d . When you press  r  to return to the main menu, confirm that you want to delete the alias by typing  y .

For more help within Elm, at Elm's main menu, press  ?  (the question mark) twice. For help outside Elm, at the Unix shell prompt, enter: man elm
