In Windows, what are Sticky Keys, and how do I enable them?
The Sticky Keys feature allows you to use key combinations involving
the Ctrl, Alt, or Shift key by
pressing only one key at a time.
To enable Sticky Keys in Windows 7 and Vista:
- From the
Startmenu, clickControl Panel.
- Open the
Ease of Access Center.
- Click
Make the keyboard easier to use, and then checkTurn on Sticky Keys.
To enable Sticky Keys in earlier versions of Windows:
- Click the
Startbutton and select eitherControl Panel, orSettingsand thenControl Panel.
- Double-click
Accessibility Options.
- Select the
Keyboardtab if it isn't already selected.
- Click the
Use Sticky Keyscheckbox. Then, next to this checkbox, click theSettingsbutton. Check the settings and make changes if you wish.
- Click
OKtwice.
Once Sticky Keys is enabled, to turn it on, press the
Shift key five times. To turn the feature off again,
press Shift five times.
